In 2002, Jeanette Araya unexpectedly lost her father. As her world crumbled and the darkness of grief surrounded her, Jeanette found solace in writing and sharing family stories with her siblings. Years later, Jeanette shares a touching, occasionally edgy, memoir that reflects back on her father, Javier Araya, and her family life growing up.
Through a chronological retelling, Araya returns to her father's origins and early life in Chile and continues through the family's eventual emigration from Chile to a new life in Los Angeles. Araya's anecdotes reveal her father's midlife challenges as he began an internal struggle that soon led him to a different purpose of serving God. While her father battled to support his family by any means necessary, Araya details how her brother ventured into the heavymetal music scene, causing new tensions in the family as her father grappled between honoring his faith and feeling proud of his son's success. Bloodline shares a heartwarming, emotionallycharged remembrance of a Chilean man's journey and the family who loved him as his life comes full circle from his upbringing to his final moments on Earth.- Sales Rank: #1246318 in Books

Bloodline, The Araya Story, my review.
By Franklin Fraga
The book opens peacefully enough, " It was a warm February morning in Whittier, California... ". .... Suddenly , you are teleported to early Feb. 2002, a very private moment, frozen in time for the Arayas. A moment, where this story begins.
The life of Mr. Javier Araya is told by his daughter Jeanette, the second of 7 children, as she felt to honor her father's and the Araya family legacy. Jeanette chronicles her father's beginnings, the early years in Chile, the middle years in suburban Los Angeles, and Maywood, to the latter years in Moreno Valley California. She details the success and challenges of a man trying to raise his family of seven children with his wife outside his native land of Chile. She recounts his inner struggles to find peace with God, the Catholic Church, the outside pressures and influences of heavy metal music, and it's demonic overtures on his family and mainly his son Tom Araya.
The book is not about the band Slayer, but Jeanette does go into the early Slayer years and the iconic success of the band including her brother Tom's accession into the band's lead singer status.
She briefly introduces you to her siblings. You will enjoy uniquely amusing accounts of the Araya family throughout the book. Time before the Internet , video games, cell and wireless phones. You'll be particularly interested in Tom 's birthday gifts to his father. But you will also be privy to some very serious moments of turmoil and grief.
In summary, I really enjoyed the book. I opened the cover and couldn't put it down, read it in one sitting . The 122 pages are flowing and well written... an excellent read. You get a sense , a true prospective of what growing up "Araya" was. Jeanette should be very proud of her father, family, and this book.
