Meanwhile, Tibby is officially commissioned into the Federation Space Force as a Fleet Admiral by the Senate. He and Kalana use Tibby’s Mirage Fighter, the ALI to join up with the NEW ORLEANS at Plosaxen. Before they arrive, the Brotherhood, on the HAPRIN, is joined by their ally a Tottalax warship. When Tibby and Kalana arrive, the cloaked NEW ORLEANS is taking heavy fire acting as an invisible shield. Tibby and Kalana are forced to remain cloaked themselves while they wait for the battle to wane so they can board the NEW ORLEANS, however, before they can do so the Tottalax unleashes their sleep weapon in an attempt to disable the NEW ORLEANS crew. Tibby and Kalana are rendered unconscious aboard the ALI as ship continues on its flight path after colliding with the Tottalax. Tibby awakens to alarms going off and the ALI is about to crash into a planet. He discovers his ship has apparently been damaged by an impact with the HAPRIN after he and Kalana lost consciousness. Tibby is barely able to make an emergency landing on the remote desert planet aptly named Desolation when Kalana awakens and announces she is going into labor. Tibby must help Kalana deliver the twins; the ALI is unable to take off or fly again, and nearest help is two light-years away Tibby activates an emergency signal for assistance and rescue, knowing it may be years, if ever, that it will be detected and help arrives.
Tibby has no way of knowing what is happening with the war against the Brotherhood. He knows he needs to get back and take command of the 1st fleet but for now he must focus on caring for Kalana and the twins in a hostile environment, with strange nocturnal creatures on a planet that seems dead by day but comes to life after the sun sets. As time progresses, Tibby must deal with the nagging thought of who will hear his emergency message and arrive first, his friends to rescue him, or the Brotherhood that seeks to kill him.

I have been an avid reader of science fiction for over 50 years and in all that time, I have only seen a hand full of science fiction books that incorporate families in the story. In the Solbidyum Wars Saga, starting with book 5, I try a new approach by bringing children into the saga as Tibby and Kalana have twins.  Throughout this book and the rest of the saga, you will get to read about these children growing as seen through the eyes of their father.  Like most fathers, especially those in the military, getting to spend time with one's children is never often enough, but yet bonds are developed, and interactions take place.  I am hoping that by bringing these children into the story it will add an element that will make the stories more realistic, even though they are fiction. I am hoping you will find this addition to the stories interesting and fun, and for those readers who are parents, I hope you can find elements that you can relate to with your own memories of raising your children.  For the rest of you, be assured there still will be plenty of action and intrigue as the war continues to grow, and Tibby leads the battle against the evil Brotherhood.

About the Author
Dale Musser was born in 1944 in a small rural community of Pennsylvania.  From 1967 until 2012 he was employed as a structural and piping designer in the industries of marine and offshore resources, cogeneration power and hard rock mining.  His work at three shipyards and assignments with several engineering and naval architectural firms during his careers in Virginia, Texas, and Maine, took him to such places as London, U.K., Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., Scotland and Mexico.  During this time, he was responsible for the design of reactor compartments for nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines for the U.S. Navy and the structural designs of numerous offshore semi-submersible oil rigs, tanker ships, supply boats, and other vessels and equipment used in the offshore industry.  After the death of his wife in 1999, Mr. Musser changed careers and went to work in Arizona and Utah in the hard rock mining industry.  He retired in the Fall of 2012 and currently resides in Mesa, Arizona.
Dale enjoys rock hunting and lapidary work, gourmet cooking, writing, poetry, art, music, religions and philosophy in small doses, astronomy and the sciences in general, hiking, camping, the outdoors and the gifts that nature provides.  Mr. Musser is a member of Mensa and remains an avid reader, having lost count of all the books he has read after 3,000.
The greatest joy in his life is his daughter, Heather.  Affectionately they call each other "BUBBY."

buckle up and enjoy the ride

Dale-Dale-Dale - brilliantly written, technically-dramatically-comically - I am upset though, as I couldn't put the book down and now have to wait for book 6. All the while, hoping there will be 60 books - the story line you've created is one like I've never experienced before. the depth of characters is phenomenal and your insight to their technology blows me away, this progression seems believable and real. It's also easy to connect with every character, their personalities and emotions bring your books to life. now, I must tell you, I've changed my mind. I've hoped since book one, that your vision makes it to the big screen... A two hour movie, even with sequels will do your books no justice. I'm hoping that one day, everyone will enjoy your stories on the sci-fi channel in a weekly series, that would last several seasons. I eagerly await book 6. Again, great job and thank you for taking my mind on a trip through the Galaxy and beyond.

GREAT STORY HEARTBREAK , LOVE , HEALING etc etc !! MUST READ

What a refreshing read !! I love going back into the minds of high school kids !! Drama , angst , heartache and all kinds of yumminess involved in young love and of course sowing your wild oats !! Seona and Jayceon have great stories to tell apart and a beautiful story together !! Many of their struggles are very real life and intense. I am happy to look back to my high school years and realize I did not have it that bad at all !! A great read , written by two wonderful authors !!

Seona has had a horrible time for the past 6 years since her mom died. Her father has never been a good father. She has always suffered from his verbal abuse and now has finally had enough and at the start of her senior year in high school she takes off to go live in Texas with her step brother Travis and his father Mark. On her first day already torn between the popular group and a star football player that everyone seems to be against , Seona finds her voice and begins to make a name for herself and a friend in someone who seems to not want to be her friend !!

Jayceon is one of the best football players in school. He is a great guy and had always been popular , that is until he walked in on something and tried to help. That blew up in his face and now he has spent the past year being bullied and shunned by most of his teammates. He has his best friend Alyssa and Brendan who attempts to have his back for the most part. The new girl comes in and there is some serious stares between them but Jayceon is automatically turned off when he finds her hanging with Chaz , the bane of his existence !! A connection between Jayceon's dad and Seona's stepbrother Travis may just be the thing to bring them together or not !!

This story is a rollercoaster of emotions !! Bullying , verbal abuse , attempted sexual abuse , drugs , alcohol , jealous best friends , rumors and heartache seem to plague these two throughout the year. Their journey is long and exhausting and makes you want to rip your hair out at times. Will their pasts tear them apart or will their own fears ruin their chances of happiness ??

Jayceon is amazing. I just love him to pieces. He may have had a great family life growing up but the crap he has dealt with silently for the past year could have ruined him. Instead he acts as the better person and may just come out on top. I liked Seona , I felt for her and really wanted to her to find happiness in her family and with Jayceon !! Really great story I totally recommend it to anyone I read it in a matter of hours couldn't put it down !!

After the death of her mother 6 years ago, Seona has lived in hell with her mentally abusive father. Turning to partying, drinking and casual sex to numb the pain isn't working anymore. Seona runs away to Texas to live with her Stepbrother, Travis and his dad Mark. She is determined to leave her bad girl rep in Michigan.

Jayceon had a really good life. Great parents, popular at school, good grades, good at football and art. His life was near perfect until a year ago. He found someone doing something wrong, and when he tried to right the wrong everyone turned on him. He is tormented every day in school and on the football field. The only person that has stuck with him is his best friend Alyssa and a fellow teammate, Brendan. Jayceon is just trying to duck his head and get through the last year of school before he heads off to college.

When Seona walks into the cafeteria her first day at school her eyes lock with Jayecon's. They are both immediately attracted to one another.

Jayceon is attracted to Seona, but he doesn't trust anyone. Especially someone who hangs out with the kids that torture him. They are thrown together by chance and Seona works hard to break down Jayceon's walls, but what happens when Seona's past shows up in her present. Will Jayceon and Seona stick together or go their separate ways?

I was lucky enough to get to beta read this book. I really enjoyed it. It kept me enthralled and turning the pages. It kept me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to get my next chapters to read. I love Rebecca's writing, but this is my first book by S. Moose. I have to say I couldn't tell who wrote which parts, the writing flowed so well together.

Jayceon was a very likable character. I wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be okay. Seona at times came off as immature and her bad girl persona shined through at times, but together they were sweet and had a good chemistry. This story takes you on that emotional rollercoaster. These authors draw you in and keep you turning the pages to see what will happen next.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters of Brendan and Claire, and think they may have stories to tell as well. Guess we'll have to wait and see the the authors agree.

bought this book on an accident and was glad i did.

So I actually didn't mean to buy this book. My internet jumped as I was reading the reviews and I hit one click. I must say I am glad it did that. This is a great book all the problems that Seona and jayceon went through broke my heart. I kinda knew that Alyssa would be a problem it's the whole girl BFF thing they think they own the guys. But I'm happy about the ending I recommend this book to anyone. It has some bullying issues and the way it was written was great they never really took it too far but just far enough to not make you want to stop reading. Good job!!

This may put me on both sides of the wrong age too old to today's generation and too young to the skaters of the 80s but as a seven-year-old runt in 1987, I would travel down to Milwaukee's Turf Skatepark with my mom and my older brother, Than, and split time watching him do scratcher grinds in the ice-slick deep bowl or slamming around a joystick while attempting to out-run bees in the video game 720º;. All I did was kneeboard then, but I liked the smell of the Turf lobby and would spend a good deal of time admiring the fluorescent wheels, board graphics - namely, the Tony Hawk Powell-Peralta Bird Skull graphic - or the griptape art (Even the pre-cut Nash circular saw grip design seemed awesome to me at the time).

When I finally started skateboarding in 1995, the first mid nineties memory that comes to mind is the girl who modeled for Teabag clothing. She was gorgeous in a way reserved only for a boy on the verge of pubescence and she graced the pages of Big Brother magazine, where Sean Cliver worked.

I didn't take much notice at the time, but when Sean Cliver wrote Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art in 2005, it brought a lot of my memories back, not just from the perfect storm that was Big Brother, but of those years at the Turf all those memories that each wheel, board graphic or piece of torn griptape held. Now, I am not and probably never will be a skateboard collector, but his most recent follow-up book, The Disposable Skateboard Bible broadens the years of nostalgia and is an amazing read for anyone who holds their greatest memories in the very thing they have spent their life destroying. My whooooole teenage years from 11-19-ish. The earliest decks that have any interest graphicly or shape are Alva or Dogtown in early 80's..it makes no sense why Sean Cliver who is like my "brother from another mother",,who was/is my ultimate favorite part of MY SKATE HISTORY.
--Despite the boring skate decks..the only other negative I have is my last deck form my teenage years is missing..It was a BigBird Alva..

Missing memories

I bought this book after picking up a copy of Concrete Wave magazine. There was an interview for the author and a few photos from the book which I found very interesting.

When I started skateboarding it was in 1986, and at the height of popularity in my area. Every shop was covered with neon deck designs and day glo plastic parts for sale. I don't remember many (if any) wheels that were natural colored white, everything was bright and loud. Every company stood out, there was no mistake for a Vision board or a G&S, you could even tell the difference from the shapes alone.

I never actually had a board from these years, my parents bought me a generic board while my friends all had the skate shop specials. So all I could do is read the Transworld and Thrasher magazines at the super market.

Years later, I wanted to buy a reissue board and while searching around I knew there was a few favorites that were missing. The reissue market is mostly Santa Cruz and Powell, with some other brands like a few Vision. After finding this book from reading Concrete Wave, I was amazed at the amount of skateboards I remember and the ones that I didn't.

The book is produced on a nice thick cover and each page is very thick, also there is a bit of distressed look to the pages. Each deck is photographed very clearly, and the range of graphics is amazing, I had no ideas there were so many colors to some of the decks or alternate graphics.

I think the part that really surprised me was how I could remember so many of the boards and who had them. It also kinda of made me realize that how technical skating has gotten really left behind the unique shapes that defined some of the boards. I just recently bought my first longboard and find it's more fun as their shapes and design are fun since it's different from each other.

In closing, if you have any interest in skating history or just interested in the graphics, or even wanting to create your own custom skateboard, this is a great resource. The book covers from the beginning of skateboarding, to about 2007.

I don't usually write reviews but this is one of the raddest books I've ever purchased.

This book is written by Sean Cliver who designed skateboard graphics for Powell originally back in 1988 (He designed all the rad Powell graphics in the early 90's. Ray Barbee, Frankie Hill, Bucky Lasek), then went on to work at World Industries, Birdhouse and Hookups. He still designs board graphics in a freelance capacity. The dude knows really knows how to design and fully understands the over all radness of skateboard graphics, which is evident by this book.

Now for the book. It's the best coffee table book you can buy if you skate, used to skate, or like rad skateboard graphics and skateboard history. 368 pages of decks and insight from the 70's through the 90s. It's basically like the history of the skateboard.

The quality of the book is top shelf style. Hard bound with a ribbon for saving pages. Printing is really high quality. You can tell that he spent a lot of time on every single page of this book to make sure it was perfect. Each page is fully designed from top to bottom. You won't see a white page with just pictures and words, because he's designed the background of the pages as well with a patina you might see in a really old book.

I'm in the graphic t shirt design industry and this book contains pretty much everything that has inspired me to get to where I am today. It's really refreshing to see a book as well written and designed as this, by someone that I can really relate to.

Bottom line. Get this book. I would have paid twice the price for it.

ONE One Major Goal You Should Have
When people seek investments, they tend to have one goal in mind: They want to beat the market.

Don’t agree? Then tell me why you compare the performance of your investments with the S&P 500 Stock Index. You’re gauging your success by comparing your investment results with the overall market, as measured by the S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, or some other stock-market index. If you’re beating the market, you’re happy. If you’re not, you’re unhappy.

Guess what? Trying to beat the market is the wrong goal.

In fact, that’s a disastrous goal. Taking that approach sets you up for failure.

Why? It’s really very simple. And we need look no further back than 2008 to understand why. In 2008 the S&P 500 lost 38.5%.I 1 If you lost only 30%, congratulations! You beat the market!

Somehow I doubt you (or your spouse) would be thrilled at such news.

Thus we must remember that “beating the market” isn’t the point. In fact, only one thing matters when it comes to investing: achieving financial security. That is your one major goal.

Think about it. The purpose of investing is to help you achieve your goals, whether that means sending your kids to college, retiring comfortably, or caring for aging parents. It’s financial security that matters, not some benchmark that has no relevance to your personal life.

People who focus on the stock market are missing the point. You need to emphasize your goals.

Excellent! This is an exceptionally good book for a tyro investor. It is free of jargon and complicated mathematical formulas and is an easy read so is not in the least intimidating for the tyro investor. When someone is first learning how to invest he or she must sort through the plethora of misinformation, wrong information, and nonsense that is out there in the investment arena. But Ric Edelman leads the tyro investor through the tangled jungle of the absolute multitude of investment nonsense out there in the world and gives the reader the simple tried and true in an easy to understand manner. I would recommend this book to anyone just learning how to invest. (I have already purchased a dozen copies of this book myself to give copies to friends and relatives. )

Really good practical advice

Really good practical advice. Not a lot of surprising info given the data that is presented and what we all have learned throughout life, but it is good to hear it from someone else. The way that the data is presented and explained is great. I will be purchasing this book for nieces/nephews and tell them that they can skip a lot of the anguish and hard life lessons if they really pay attention to the messages in this book.

The author put his ideas into a tiny sized book and and then triple spaced everything!!! All it is is a pitch for you to turn over all your money and let his company "wisely" invest it for you. This is a scam. Go on the internet and read how poorly his company took care of other people's money.

Ilan Stavans is Lewis-Sebring Professor in Latin American and Latino Culture at Amherst College. He is the author of many books, including Spanglish: The Making of a New American Language and A Most Imperfect Union. He is also general editor of The Norton Anthology of Latino Literature.

Edna Acosta-Belén is the Chair of the Department of Latin American, Caribbean, and U. S. Latino Studies as well as the Director of the Center for Latino, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies at the University at Albany, State University of New York.

Harold Augenbraum is the Executive Director of the National Book Foundation.

Maria Herrera-Sobek, Professor of Chicano Studies, is the Luis Leal Endowed Chair at the University of California, Santa Barbara and the Associate Director of the Center for Chicano Studies. A renowned literary critic, poet, and folklore specialist, Dr. Herrera-Sobek has published numerous books, articles, and scholarly essays.

Rolando Hinojosa is a novelist, essayist, poet, and the Ellen Clayton Garwood Professor in the English Department at the University of Texas at Austin.

Gustavo Pérez Firmat is the David Feinson Professor of Humanities at Columbia University. He is the author of several books of literary and cultural criticism, four collections of poetry, a novel, and a memoir. He divides his time between New York City and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Validation- at last!

This carefully crafted collection of Latino literature goes a long way toward validating the lives and experiences of so many men and women who have been deemed invisible or 'declasse' by American society. The depth and breath of information is wonderful, opening up new avenues to latino readers. Mr. Stavans, bien hecho!

Bugs in the book!

The book is indeed as advertise, great condition, no marks, almost new. I just found distasteful that when I opened the box, the first thing I saw was a little book bug crawling on the book. I videotape it but could only upload a screenshot from the video.

Good collection of things that are difficult to find

As always Norton gives great background and biographical information that make reading of these pieces more interesting and provide a context for understanding them. I was a little surprised that some really great stories were omitted, but then they are more accessible elsewhere.

Preserving in Today's Kitchen is the paperback version of Jeanne Lesem's Preserving Today, which was published in hardcover in 1992. It won a James Beard Foundation award in recognition of Lesem's canning methods, which are creatively suited to today's fast-moving life and smaller households: most of the recipes make one to four cups; some call for using the microwave or a Crock-Pot to streamline the cooking process; and many items can be refrigerated or frozen, bypassing the bother of a hot-water bath. Along with traditional favorites such as strawberry jam, there are recipes for Dried Apricot Jam, Peach Melba Jam With Raspberries, and Cantaloupe Pickles. The Reduced-Fat Tomato Orange Marmalade, Salt-Free Dill Pickles, and Homemade Tomato Paste are as appealing as Lesem's more classic treats.

If you want to make wonderful jams & jellies...

...then this is the book for you. First of all, this cookbook has probably the most amazingly good recipe for strawberry jam I've ever found. Right there, it's worth the price of the book. Her spicy blueberry jam with spices like cinnamon & cloves is what I'd call an "adult jam". Almost a chutney.
Jeanne gives you a large collection of commercial-pectin-free recipes that end up giving you a better flavor and contain quite a bit less sugar. She encourages you to think in terms of small, quality batches as opposed to the 15-quart batches my grandmother used to turn out.
I've liked this book so much, I've given something like 8 copies of it away to friends who came whining around looking for more jam. Now all of us are happily making jam.

From Basic to Exotic

This is an excellent book for the novice or the practiced preserver. Lesem begins her book with a summary of the equipment needed, a clear description of the basic techniques, and a market guide to buying and storing fresh produce. Then the fun begins. I have tried the basics--Apple Butter (made in a slow cooker--Yum!), Strawberry Preserves and Quick Dill Slices--and the exotic--Pickled Snap Peas and Fresh Green Chutney with Chinese Parsley and Yogurt. So far, SUCCESS! Now, I'm looking forward to trying Jalapeno Lime Marmalade, Tomato Peach Jam and Green Tomato Ketchup. The recipes are clear and often accompanied by an amusing or interesting anecdote. Helpful hints are scattered throughout the book. And the really good news is that most of these recipes are for small quantities, many 2 or 3 cups of finished product. There is also a chapter about microwave preserving, what works, what doesn't.

Great for fruit chutneys, jams, and jellies

This was a disappointment for me, as I was hoping to learn about canning the harvest of my garden. It has very little to do with vegetables. It is primarily focused on fruit-based products. I think it would be a great book if that's what you're interested in. But, please choose another book if you're looking for tomato, bean, and basic vegetable recipes.

This was a welcome surprise. It's hard to find quality erotica out there and this was just great. The premise is super hot and the characters are well drawn and dimensional. I could have done without the enema but that's just me. Some people are into that. I also wanted more description of the guy's messed-up face, but overall those two things didn't detract from the story. Georgia Foxx hits up all the thrills and builds suspense while she's doing it. A professional!

Amazing series

I first was introduced to this series years ago. I found the story of a mysterious hybrid by the name of Tynan to be incredibly intense. I quickly fell in love with the series and it was no wonder how I could wait patiently for the revised second edition. I nabbed this revision and it brought back fond memories. The story has again came out swinging and I just can't wait for more books if this brilliant series to be released.
