Russell also has more than 16 years of State Agency Technical Education experience in the field of electronics, and has authored numerous books for electronics education and training.

Robert Diffenderfer received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from John Brown University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from the University of Illinois. With over 28 years of professional experience, he is currently a Senior Professor with DeVry University teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology program at the Kansas City, Missouri campus.

The best I've ever seen

This textbook is far and away the best I've ever seen on the subject. I wholeheartedly agree with the previous review, and would like to add a few comments of my own. This book, as a stand-alone text, is outstanding. If you combine this book, the lab project manual(sold separately-around $70), and invest around $50 in a Multisim software program(10.1 is the newest version right now), you've just given yourself the basis of an electronics education that will serve you well for the rest of your life. Multisim is basically a circuit prototyping and analysis software package. It has a 3-d breadboard where you can hook up circuits(with around 16,000 different components to choose from) and see how/if they work, analyze and troubleshoot them, etc. Pretty much anything you could do on a breadboard, you can do on Multisim. This book comes with a disk that gives you ready made circuits to open with Multisim to experiment on, and it walks you through doing so. It's unbelievable. The lab manual gives you a ton of actual circuit building experiments to do on an real breadboard...again walking you through. The book itself starts assuming no previous knowledge of electronics, and takes you up through transistors, oscillators, op amps, etc. It has a plethora of examples that are worked out step by step, with practice problems coming every couple of pages, and then chapter review problem at the end of every chapter...all with the answers at the back of the book so that you can check your progress. I've never taken the time to review ANYTHING my whole life, but this book has been such a blessing for me, I just had to. I'm teaching myself electronics, in preparation of starting an Electronics Engineering program at Devry this spring. I just wish I would've bought this book earlier, instead of some others I bought. HIGHLY recommended!

Best book for foundations

Of the 3 electronic books I ordered, this one is definitely the best. Easy to understand and laid out well. For an introduction, it's better than "Practical Electronics for Inventors" and vastly superior to the kindergarten style of "Getting Started i Electronics". I ordered a cheap edition from 2003. I figured that electronics at my level hadn't
changed that much in the last decade.

So says the wise cat, Colonel, in Sepulveda's charming tale of devotion, courage and the importance of keeping one's word. A man-made disaster indeed gets the story started: a female gull becomes mired in an enormous oil slick and expends all of her remaining energy in a final flight to safety. She lands on the balcony of an apartment building, where she meets the fat black cat Zorba and extracts a threefold promise from him: that he will not eat the egg she is about to lay, that he will look after it and, once it is hatched, that he will teach the fledgling how to fly. Zorba enlists the help of his good and noble friends ("He gave his word of honor, and the word of one cat of the port is the word of all the cats of the port," says Colonel). Each is endearing and distinctive, from the sage but stammering Colonel to the hilariously forthright Secretario to the encyclopedia-consulting Einstein. With shades of the friendship between a spider named Charlotte and a pig named Wilbur, the relationship between Zorba and Lucky (the name the feline gives the baby gull) explores fundamental questions of life and death, and following one's calling. Sepulveda also fills the brief chapters with memorable everyday moments: the busy Italian restaurant that serves the cats around the back (but only with a reservation), the catalogue of wonders cached in the house of Harry, a human friend to the cats. A Great Story of Courage in the Face of Environmental Disaster and an Excellent Translation

This book is a great read for all ages, and it is appropriate for children 7 to 12. The summary provided by Amazon is correct. The only thing I have to add that it is a story of great feeling, and from an academic standpoint, it is useful to develop language art skills and language learning skills. I think it is best read if read aloud. If I had children, I would read them this book at night.

I love this author. His writing is easy to follow, and gives straight message. For this book, it cracks me up with laugh, and feeling content, and loving. Wonderful book for everyone.

Gone to the top of my list

This book is on my favorite book shelf for this month at the bookstore in which I work.
My son reads to his daughter and I suggested this book. Both parent and child can appreciate this charming story and the clever way in which it is told. Very clever plot. I would have never guessed at the solution to the problem.

About the Author
Frank Norris was an American author who wrote primarily in the naturalist genre, focusing on the impact of corruption and turn-of-the-century capitalism on common people. Best known for his novel McTeague and for the first two parts of his unfinished The Epic of the Wheat trilogyThe Octopus: A Story of California and The Pit, Norris wrote prolifically during his lifetime. Following his education at the Acad?mie Julian in Paris, University of California, Berkeley, and at Harvard University, Norris worked as a news correspondent for the San Francisco Chronicle, and covered the Spanish-American War in Cuba for McClure s Magazine. Norris died suddenly in 1902 of peritonitis, leaving The Wolf: A Story of Empire, the final part of his Wheat trilogy, incomplete.

This is probably the most disappointing product I've ever purchased ...

This is probably the most disappointing product I've ever purchased. This is a computer text to speech reading the classic novel. It does such a disservice as an audible book I don't even have the heart to send it back. I just simply dropped it into the trash. There was no heads up the product information that this was an electronic production. Very misleading and greatly disappointing. They should be ashamed that the price tag they put on it.
